specific lady her name was Gladis West she created the GPS but we have a little something that can show you better than I can tell you let's go dog yeah let's talk about the GPS whenever you use your GPS or global positioning system for directions or tagging a location for your Instagram photo you should think Gladis West Gladis West is a mathematician born in genuine County Virginia in 1930 she was a valid showing it for high school in 1948 and served as a mathematician for the naval Proving Ground after graduating from Virginia State University it was here where she became known as a human computer she did calculations that our computers do today but she did them by hand Miss was so good that she eventually transitioned to programming computers her work as a project manager for the ceset satellite literally changed the way we operate in life for the first time ever humans were able to determine the exact location and distance between places on the planet Mrs West math was eventually used in our modern GPS capable machines helping airplanes spaceships and school buses find the best route to a location Gladis West the human computer and the reason why we have GPS all right all right all right ladies and gentlemen I have a very special guest for you all today this is my brother who has been rocking with us with schoolyard rat for many years now and he wants to give that most educated in the land she did that secure the bag with she did that with the without a man she did that anything he could do she could do too say anything he can do she can do too she proved that so you do that if they hating get back cuz they did that anything he can do she can do win if you ask again let's move like Michelle Obama put on a master class like Fatima Robinson captain on a Lula Washington or Aisha Ash and she walking like walking like Tyra walking like on fire spinning like Charlotte then drop it like a shot from Serena to I think it to the top like put that man up his face how she do that how she do that definition of a classic black girl magic hey 1 more time can we all say she did that no I say it say she did that hey what's going on with y'all out there man it's me and my boy DJ doghouse I think we need to do a dance break Terry hey when my boy starts a rapping like that but we start doing these songs right here and we really get hype and stuff like that we can't do nothing but help but to want to dance so we want to do a little dance for y'all real quick something that we used to do back in the day I don't know if you remember this dance but DJ dog house can you go and play that song we used to dance Too back in the day sir would you mind holding the microphone I got this soldier boy let Terry please y'all from left to right everybody say go Superman hold on I think I can do it hold on I think I need to crack that song okay all right all right cut it off guys hold on cuz I've seen something like like we said we not as young as these kids right here the students right there right so our knees don't work as good as they do but you know what I couldn't help but to see people laughing at us right and I'm not talking about the students too I'm talking about all the Educators right all the Educators out there or or laughing at us they kick in so you know what how about this I'm going to show y'all how to do a dance and I need y'all to do it too y'all on screen so students are going to be able to see you so I need y'all to stand up if you can we going to show y'all how to do this dance that we do in the culture that we do a cook house that we do at birthday party celebrations wedding reception the little dance it's called the electric slide right I think it's time for us to I'm about to let you slide so it's real simple I'm going to show I know you can't see our whole body you know just listen to our words and just do what we do so it's 4 steps to the right 1 2 3 4 4 steps to the left 1 2 3 4 4 steps back 1 2 2 3 4 and then you tap forward 1 2 tap back 1 2 tap forward and swing that back leg over all right and that starts the first step 1 2 just like that and we repeat it DJ dog house there's a song that we like to play then we do the Electric Slide too you play that song for me sir all right okay all right here we go remember 4 steps to the right first here we go here we go here we go hey going back and back and I back now you should know I make sure I'm right girl hey now swinging okay ladies and gentlemen that is what we like to call the electric slide right now when we get to do all these dance and stuff like this I don't know about you Ryan I get rather hungry brother I get a little hungry so I I'm not sure what it is that you guys like to eat out there but since it's Black History I need to know is there any people that like soul food has anybody even heard of the term soul food now you might not know what that is okay so soul food you got macaroni and cheese hope there's some mac and cheese fans right and and you got sweet potato pie okay and did my favorite good old Southern Fried Chicken all right the chicken has to be seasoned correctly though you can't just have Bland chicken cuz that doesn't constitute that soul food it needs to be cooked and seasoned right okay but you know what DJ dog house can we show them a little bit about our commercial that tells them about uh good old soul food thank you sir this episode of homeschool history is also brought to you by like fried chicken candied yams greens or sweet potato pie if you like anything you eat at KFC pot pies or what some people call Southern Cuisine you can think of black person these delicious dishes were originally created I enslaved Africans in America in order to make the best out of the limited scraps of meat and food they were given these creative men and women created an entirely new genre of food they use spices and seasoning to cover up the Bland and often rotten flavor and smell of the meat they use vegetables that were native to their motherland Africa they made the best out of worse they were given something out of nothing so you eat it so fake us sometimes all right DJ dog house before you play it let me let me get the people to say something with me if you know that you can be the best that you can be that you could aieve anything that you set your mind and your heart to Long you can Implement hard work let me hear you say that so true you got to say it with some pride with some power say that's so true we make something out of nothing that's a black folks do let's go DJ dog house let's tell them what we do how we get down in the culture okay here we go 1 Thanksgiving what's up mixing something she called Chipman stuck up the whole kitchen like Mama what's that why I say so bad she say child this is picket testers and it ain't so bad yeah little boy listen don't know what you missing listen to your history this is a tradition we only chew what we grew or eat what we can catch Massa got the good meat but slaves got the scraps and that's awful but we wasn't starving now we mix it and we cook it in there something we could garble for man Mr corn meal with hot water the enslaved in Brazil they had made fresh water rice and beans collard greens yam vegetable and spices from a mixed into corn dishes from the natives and the master 1 I eat our food we make something out of nothing that's a black holes dude take what Master wouldn't eat into that so food create most of dance and slain that you use black minds are so Innovative that's so true say that so true we make something out of nothing that's so black folk do say that's so true black Mazza so innovator that's so they do you know the origins that are slang you use they slate trap rat shitt oh wait drip period about your to you ain't even know it Cotton Club like some poets if Dictionary c Callaway wrote it explaining all the slang to the folks who didn't spoke it if it was a word that black maid cool just like the country popular dance moves Jackie the Twist and pop like Jitterbug Running Man and every Tik Tok we made something out of nothing that's what black folk do we tow a Master with a eating too that's soul food we created most of dancing slang that you use black minds or so Innovative that's so true say that so true we make something out of nothing that's so black folk Goose scream that's so true and that's so you 1 more time everybody say I am amazing yes you are say I am beautiful yes you are say I am intelligent and last but not least say I am powerful yeah so you know these kids really are powerful dog house can you help us out show them equal history is brought to you by lasers not the lasers you see in lasers that are used to heal and fix bodies in 1988 Dr Patricia bath filed a patent for a laser that removed cataracts from an eye that's right a black woman invented the first laser eye surgery so whenever you hear about someone getting eye surgery to remove their cataracts to sharpen their Vision or just cause think of Dr Patricia bath lasers used for healing eyes because of a black man all right ladies and gentlemen we are talking about the power that it is that you have the Excellence your inner Excellence the power that you have in your heart that you have to embrace you bring that power out you can achieve anything now we just showed a wonderful commercial about lasers right some curious is there any comic book fans out there any DC Marvel fans or even anime fans out there now when I was a kid I used to look up to the superheroes like Batman like Superman the Flash all that because they were excellent ideas at least I thought and felt that I wanted to be like that because I wanted to help my community I wanted to use the power that I have that I've been blessed with to make this world a better place so this next song that we want to do is dedicated to all the people to know that you are powerful that you have a power inside you that no Dr eau de Harris can see read and understand any mind eat your sand do controls computers and Tech and respect he designs longer than Hercules Dr Martin Luther King can make reality some dreams not going to make the motivating power hey like morph you can't do anything bounce back from pain like Wolverine your brilliant like the Beast you got the spark like Jubilee with the power of your mind you can move mountains like Eugene you will need it but it takes more than the faith of mustard seed it takes constant grind a bunch of times sacrifice and sleepless nights of doing work and checking twice a focused mind some swallow Pride lots of nose lights inside Mr Vince friends may say bye feel the temperature sweat you cry but you can do it you know why you're powerful say it with me say I'm powerful 1 more time say I'm powerful well hard work you can see what your superpower would be hey who told you who would quit who said don't give your all though it's for your cross the finish line even if you walk Dr King was beating bit paraded hating he still march to be was thrown in jail but Mrs Wells kept writing on Malcolm X didn't quit Dr sebi kept on healing Corey Berner got paralyzed he keeps his legs on lifting I'm not saying you owe it to him I'm asking why you quitting which 1 of these superheroes roast have gave me you permission and Tik Tok that you see they make content consistently every super hero mention appeared to bail a bunch of times it's never failure if you learn from it don't stop because excuses are just tools that build mind you miss to nothing everyone has 1 except those that accomplish something you're talented but Talent only wins when it works hard you have the power to do anything that you work for it takes constant grind a bunch of times sacrifice and sleepless nights of doing work and checking twice a focus mind some swallow Pride lots of nose nights inside Mr Vince friends may say bye failed attention sweats or cry you can do it you to you by dambe what is that you ask it is awesome different from the boxing we know where 2 opponents move around the ring with faints Dodges weaves Jabs and punches this traditional form of boxing from the house of people in Nigeria and other West African countries has special rules Dan boxers utilize 1 arm that is wrapped in padded as a spear and the other arm which is unwrapped acts like a shield they use a combination of punches kicks and elbow strikes to score points or deliver a knockout to their opponent this sport is a historically significant part of the hausa culture and can be traced back to the 10th Century so if you need to pick up a new fighting style or beat baky in a fight learn dambe ladies and gentlemen as we get into this last song of our presentation today of this
