others thank you as more and more students become actively engaged on the Internet it's important that they learn how to stay alert online we need to teach our children how to engage and digital spaces as good digital citizens that know their rights and was abilities online so again as parents Guardians and their caregivers we need to 100 and the potential risk of the dish the world and identify the skills needed to navigate online spaces teach your child about Online safety privacy security monitor your child's online activities and encourage your child to be responsible digital citizen so we should all be proactive about keeping and helping out Children stay alert online as parents Guardians and their caregivers we need to do one support digital citizenship instruction at the school and also helped children about Online safety privacy and security we need to know what skills are children need to navigate online spaces and make sure that we help them build a reinforced those necessary skills when I'm when when are children children are home using the internet we need to make sure that we monitor their online activities and set boundaries for the use of Internet we also need to remember that we are models for our children and we also need two models good digital citizenship to help our children stay safe online we need to teach them how to make smart choices and to secure website applications and online platforms we can help our children still there online by teaching them how do identify websites that are safe for them to use online so what is a green website green websites are those online sites that are safe for children sites that our children can use to learn and play on and examples of a green websites are for example Elementary brainpop.com Newsela ABCmouse Mouse didn't Secondary School canva.com code.org Discovery Education and Ingenuity it can be fun with things for you to do or see just make sure that it is appropriate for your child so our children also need to learn to identify what are the red websites besides are not appropriate for their age level or contain inappropriate videos pictures or words a site that is clearly not appropriate for your child's age is your child might have gone by accident I filled a picture's worth and videos that are for older kids or adults and a place where you are allowed to chat with people you don't know so please keep your children not be vigilant as to what your children are watching at all times and now we want to watch a video in terms of how we make those choices online just one I just let me know if I'm sharing my my Sam alrighty interested in children nursing navigate to Phil's wife's choice is online they need to understand the difference between private and personal information we want our children to know that the internet can you use as a place to not only consume in for but to create and collaborate with others and knowing what information cannot be shared online will help them create and collaborate safely online so then we're going to watch the video on private and personal information are these videos Dubai Common Sense education and the pain are available to all teachers having sense also has videos that parent Guardians and her caregivers and use with their children at home let me know if you can hear can you hear that no right let me just stop and make sure and bear with me just a moment does go bad ready and you're still see my screen correct or look in the mirror what do you see yourself of course but who are you what makes you you dare how to fix your personality your favorite food your pet or your favorite movie sharing this personal information on your phone or computer can be a lot of fun and can help you connect with other people sharing something fun that happened keeps a great memory alive and sharing what you know teaches other people do ideas before you share however it's important to pause and think someone for me about you like your full name your address or your date of birth can be used to identify you individually information is private and should not be shared online unless you get permission first from an adult you trust so when it comes to sharing about you personal info can be okay but private info no way think before you share with friends with your community and with the world so what information do you share online Mini so I miss us. And I'll take it from here we're going to talk about private and no information now that you know more about private and personal information let's review private information is of information that can be used to identify you because it's Unique to you so if you can remember some things from the video what are some private information and that you would not want to share most likely things like your address your full name those type of things are private information that you would not share personal information is about you but it's information that cannot be used to identify you this information may be true but it's also true about many people so from our video if we can remember there are some examples of personal information your favorite color are your favorite fruit that's personal information and that's okay to share so now we're going to practice identifying private and personal information at the slide shows information that is not okay to share give me a thumbs down and if the slideshows information that is okay to share give me a thumbs up let's begin your first and last name this information should you share online remember me a thumbs down if it's horrible but if it's if it's not if it's not terrible and a thumbs up if it is hopefully you gave me a thumbs down that is private information your home address think about it thumbs down if it's not okay to share thumbs up if it is okay to share hopefully you gave me a thumbs down that again is private information a selfie picture is that information you would want to share online think about it if it's not okay you would give me a thumbs down and if it is okay to share give me a thumbs up I'll wait a few seconds hopefully you gave me a thumbs down exactly that is private information that can identify you your telephone number is this information you should share online if it's not okay give me a thumbs down and if it is okay to share give me a thumbs up hopefully you gave me a thumbs again it's private information that can be used to find you and finally your favorite ice cream flavor is this information you can share online give me a thumbs down if it's not okay to share or thumbs up if it is okay to share hopefully you gave me a thumbs up yes it is personal information it's true about you but it's true about many people thank you payment for having that lesson there my name is Mister kotleba and I'm the bridge coordinator here at Virtual Academy I wanted things were going to be looking at here is whether or not our children are alert when they go online we want answers of the question who are you talking to online as our students use the internet to learn to socialize to share our Diaz it's important that we are all alert digital citizen the internet provides a platform for us to interact and collaborate with others online some people on the air it might be miles away or another countries it's easy for people to hide their real identities on the internet as online users we need to all be aware of who we talk to online we want to make sure that we are alert and safe when interacting or talking to online we're now going to be watching a quick video and we're going to discuss him we're going to go going to be discussing what some of the benefits are and the risk of talking with people online that you do not know face to face there are a lot of people out there who aren't who they say they are in small ways in big ways is totally fine for someone to become friends with someone online but you have to be very very careful over there text and their pictures could be fake on social media you can talk to people but like you can't really get your emotion across talking to strangers online 50/50 what are the benefits of online relationships it's definitely easier to interact and talk to people because he's just thinking about what you're saying and you just are more comfortable B to some of the greatest part about having a friendship with someone online is that they're easily you can just text them and be like hey what's up you can have that sort of immediate connection all the time if you are a smaller Community becoming friends with someone online allows you to become friends with someone who has the simulator since you and you can have a really good friendship with someone I really do enjoy playing video games of connecting with other people where they're strangers or if I'm playing with my friends and talking to them and you know doing something together I think that. really fun that we can all enjoy the same thing actually have to deal with this person so they don't like what you're saying they can leave if you don't like what you're saying what they're saying you can leave some times having conversations can just be kind of making making sort of anxious when you're online you're behind the screen it'll make it easier for them to say things that they want to say but they might not say in real life there is a very significant difference between a real friendship and online friendship that's not to say that you're online friendships aren't real it's a they're different there's something called ibson or Internet best friends and basically they text and they become best friends but they haven't met them in real life or so a lot of trust between the people I've talked to online because they were really close friends of my close friends it's just I think trust is the main thing so I have friends or I know through other people on your Instagram or SnapChat you know whatever it is I'm using and maybe I'll just say hi or just I start conversation there's things that you can tell people online that you can't tell people in real life at the same time you have to know how to be safe right I was done work talking face-to-face because like on social media you can talk to people but like it's hard to like communicate like a sense of realness and like emotions if the person is a total stranger to you that you may they may have a turn it in for motive trying to get other information out of you pretending to be where you live you don't actually know they really are and you need to be sure that they're okay I think a lot of people assume that because you're having you have a friend online and they're kind of not always in your day today and you can choose and edit what you say to them that it's always going to be good but it's still early that is so cute people and you're giving them a lot of information about yourself there was a great question there at the end so what are the benefits in the risks of talking to people online that you don't know face-to-face well you obviously want to discuss it with parents Guardians Gerber's first as parents Guardians and even caregivers that you can have them provide a phone number in order to make arrangements for them to meet a few Dean that is appropriate you want to make sure that they know that an adult needs to be included in the play if something like this and then adult will need to be with him face-to-face with a meeting ever does take place okay now what about some vocabulary let's take a closer look at some vocabulary terms that all good digital citizen should know about protect them as they interact with others online all the children I have the ability to interact and access the internet they can even use online platforms to socialize with others during these online social interactions they might give their opinions about a topic or in friendships sometimes they can engage in chat or messaging with others online as our children engage online they need to be able to spot with a call red flags a red flag is when something happens that the students feels uncomfortable every Saturday anxious about it is important that students know that they can reach out to their parent Guardian for the teacher for some of these issues and support support your children should be aware that sometimes when they chat with others online they might have ask him to share personal images or videos if they find themselves in a situation students need to know that they need to immediately stop chatting or texting with that person even at if it it's another doing our friend I can reach out to the parent of Garden or tea for support alert digital citizen students can learn to use internet in a responsible Manner and use our digital citizenship skills to stay safe online they also need to be aware that is easy for people to hide their real ID the online children might think that they are chatting with a person their age online but it might actually be someone older than using that old and older than that using the chat or messaging tool to befriend and ultimately manipulate manipulate your child into doing something that they don't want to do this is actually called Brew me and your child needs to know that they need to pause and think if they find themselves in a situation they need to stop interacting with that individual immediately Reach Out to your teacher or parent or Guardian for support digital citizens as parents we have the responsibility to support our schools and teaching our son it's about digital citizenship our children need to be good digital citizens at home and at school we want our children to access the power of the internet and engaging in all five of the digital citizen competencies digital citizens are inclusive they engage with others online and respect with respect and empathy they are also engaged that use technology for civic engagement and to be a force for good they are alert they know how to be safe online and create safe spaces for other they are informed they evaluate the accuracy the perspective in the visit the liberty of information online and they are balanced they prioritize their time and activities online and offline spell unified responsible use policy we do have it in everybody's drive on schoology but those things actually need to be looked at a little bit more carefully last does hasn't have a but use policy for students leusd is committed to having their students and gauge as responsible digital citizens that use technology for good the responsible use policy helps students and parents understand the rights and responsibilities around the use of internet and Technology in LAUSD parents need to be aware that they have the responsibility to go over the responsible use policy with their child and both the child and parent must sign that responsible use policy the responsible use policy needs to be turned in the tin to the teacher or the school's office and responsible use policy or District computers and network systems based on October 2023 and is also represented in Spanish for you and I believe we can find that
