messaging video chatting and social media there's also online research virtual field trips and instructional content as well as videos gaming music and podcasts and online banking and shopping kids 8 through 12 spend almost four hours and teenagers ages 13 through 18 spent almost six and a half hours a day online what they do is they watch videos they browse websites they video chat and use social media so it's very essential to learn about and understand common online dangers to beware of and actions that you can take to protect them and your family these are just some tips to protect your children in cyberspace I remember to have to Foster open Community communication to to discuss online risks and behaviors to have regular conversations about all mine safety practices and give them guidance rather than controlling Behavior encourage children to be cautious remind them what's on the Internet isn't always true and that people behind the other side of the screen they may not be who they seem to be or say who they are make sure to also talk to them about the importance of positive online identity to watch for changes in their behavior cuz that an avoidance of the computer may be a sign that your child is being bullied online the review the security settings and privacy policies for the apps and the different websites and remember to protect internet-enabled devices like you're smart phones and tablets the slide talks about cyber predators and Bullies so cyber Predators look online for children and sometimes even adults to exploit them to control them or hurt them in some way they often try to connect through chat rooms and instant messaging social media and different online communities like when they play their games cyberbullies they post mean or hurtful messages or photos about others online or through text messages or email in common places for cyberbullying are social media gaming communities instant messaging through email and yearling one out of every two teens have experienced cyberbullying so again these are some cyber tips that you can share with your children be sure to keep your personal information private never ever share your name address phone number birthday passwords or school that you attend online tell them that you that they can speak up see something inappropriate they have to tell an adult and let the website know don't talk to strangers and never agree to meet in person tell an adult that you trust a stranger contacts you in a chat room or via email or new text tell them to only communicate online with people that they actually know and think about think carefully before posting when something is in cyberspace or online it's there forever and finally practice the Golden Rule treat others the way that you would want to be treated and now I'll hand it off to our counselor Irene Velasquez afternoon everyone so I'm going to cover fish and identity theft a one of the great examples of this and often I speak to
